Valentine Cookies with Family in Less Than an Hour

Sugar cookies

 INGREDIENTS:

1 Cup butter, softened

1 Cup granulated white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1 egg

2 teaspoons baking powder

3 cups all purpose flour

DIRECTIONS:

            Preheat oven to 350° F.

            In the bowl of your mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth.

            Beat in extracts and egg.

            In a separate bowl combine baking powder with flour and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients. With CONTROLED stirring motions, have your children stir the heck out of the dough. Give them a workout! When it gets too stiff, knead through the dough through with wet, SUPER-CLEAN fingers; HOWEVER, after kneading with water, I still recommend to keep a dusting of flour so as to obtain the "plump-effect" (the dough bouncing back as a sign that it is ready to cut with the cookie cutters). 

 

The Dough DOES NOT have to be chilled. Divide into workable batches, roll out onto a floured surface and cut*

 These cookie cutters were a GREAT DEAL? How much $ & Where did I get them? Go ahead, ASK!

Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack.

Vanilla Icing = Candiquik + Candy Melts or whatever OIL BASED food coloring you find. 

I recommend purchasing Candy Melts to mix with the Candiquik. If you cannot find something comparable to Candy Melts buy an OIL BASED food coloring.

Follow the directions (back of the packaging) for melting the Candy Melts. We used the microwave.  Mix  the melted Candy Melts with the Candiquick. We used as many red

Candy Melts as necessary to gain the pink color we desired. Of course, use MANY red Candy Melts if you want red hearts. 

In closing, I have to say that this is the most DELICIOUS Sugar Cookie recipe I have ever used. I also had a "Celebrity Endorsement" from... MY MOTHER! LOL She is a 40 year veteran of Food Services, and she has "professional experience". Thanks, Mamaw!
